Tips for collars:
- The best collars will be sized specifically for the wearer. This will mean you don’t have random straps and other pieces hanging off it, which can be a hindrance and also not look great.
- Collars are quite personal. Unlike bondage cuffs, rope and other things, many people prefer not to share collars with other people – even if they are just play collars. For this reason, you might find a new play partner prefers to “bring their own” collars rather than using one you may have used with someone else.
- Don’t go too tight or loose with the collar. It should fit snugly but be comfortable and allow easy unrestricted breathing.
- If you are using the collar for more than just symbolic purposes, it’s important that it is sturdy. You’ll probably want a ring on the front of it for practical purposes (attaching leashes, bondage etc).
- Be wary of sharp edges on collars – particularly for long term wear.
- Posture collars are a whole different area which I’ll cover separately.
