Iceland is the dystopia created by anti-sex-work-anti-porn fanatics like Julie Bindel and Gail Dines. It’s the beta test for the program they’d impose on the entire world in their rabid campaign to eliminate all forms of sex commerce. Though they like to posture themselves as leftists of some kind their real instincts are deeply and profoundly fascistic. Make no mistake about their intentions. They are every bit as much about controlling the behavior of women as that of men. This bill is just another disgraceful example of ideology that drives these zealots, an ideology that they’ve attempted with some success to impose in large parts of Europe, including Sweden and Norway, and they they’d like nothing better than to import here. I have had the displeasure of encountering Ms. Dines and her mob in person and I find nothing about them that distinguishes them morally from any other kind of authoritarian personality. Despite their histrionic claims to the contrary, they have done nothing to reduce the level of sexual violence in the world and have only succeeded in inflicting greater misery on the most marginalized and vulnerable classes of sex workers. I can only hope that people of goodwill and commonsense will reject this vile bill and everything it stands for.
