Event Review: Lovely Fate Play Party

July 2, 2018 By Laila 8 Comments

July 2, 2017

Lovely Fate… My new favorite play party in Los Angeles… everything I never knew I wanted in a kink event.

I recently had the pleasure of attending Lovely Fate. For those who haven’t heard of it, Lovely Fate is a new series of curated play parties in Los Angeles.

I have been to many kinky events around the country and the world. I have to say that this could be the best event I have been to so far. Founded by a group of friends from the LA kink scene, they told me they were tired of the same old events, and set out to create the ultimate play party – the kind they had hoped existed when they first entered the scene. The result – at least based on the one event I attended – is impressive.

According to the web site, Lovely Fate aims for “sensory joy and intrigue”. Having had no idea what on earth this meant, as I entered the party I felt like I began to understand. Music, visual elements, smells and taste have apparently been carefully choreographed to arouse and intoxicate guests. As for touch – there are plenty of opportunities to participate as a dominant or submissive (top or bottom?) either in featured interactive scenes or in negotiated play with other guests. But before you think of wooden, rehearsed stage shows, think again. Instead, imagine experienced kinksters invited to perform their most intimate, creative and real BDSM scenes in weird, wonderful and alluring surrounds. These are a kind of aperitif to get the party started before many guests enjoy scenes of their own.

kyotokink11

Erotic shibari? Check. Teasing and torturous endurance bondage? Check. Predicaments, slave training, sensory deprivation? Check, check, check. I’ve noticed that many play parties are dominated (!) by impact play. And while that can certainly be found here, I was impressed by the breadth of variety on display.

After my ticket was checked, a pretty young thing greeted me and introduced herself. She then beckoned for me to follow and lead me (and my date) down a hallway and through a dark curtain. A deep, dark melody filled the air my eyes adjusted to the dimly lit room. In almost a whisper, our lovely escort invited me to “choose my fate” and gestured to several small silver statues on a table. I worked out that each represented a BDSM role. Being a bisexual Rope Bunny Switch with a sadistic streak, I am not easily categorized (other than just “kinky as fuck”). But I was feeling a Toppy that evening, so I went for the small figurine of what appeared to be a badass Dominatrix. Our new friend grinned wickedly and brought me through another curtain to reveal a larger room where some other guests were gathered and a variety of scenes were unfolding. On one table, a girl tied in a gote chest harness, with a devious man tormenting her tits mercilessly. In a corner, a cage confined a naked feminine figure who gazed back at me. And across the room, a pair of male slaves knelt at the feet of two latex-clad dominas. This is where I was led, and immediately invited to join in on the fun. I should clarify that I was asked at check-in if I wanted to participate – many guests were generally watching and socializing and there was no expectation that I had to play right away (or at all).

kyotokink3

The event was so unique, that is difficult to categorize. The best way I can describe it is sex party meets upscale BDSM play party combined with elements of interactive theatre. A great deal of creativity and attention to detail has gone into all aspects of the event, with the apparent goals of creating an environment that is classy and enchanting, but unmistakably centered in sexuality and kink.

What stood out to me most of all were the people attending this event. While there was a spectrum of skill and experience in BDSM present, everyone I encountered was friendly and welcoming. While there were plenty of attractive people, it wasn’t so over the top as to be intimidating (like you might find at certain high end swinger events in LA). Whether they were dominants, submissives, masters or slaves, these were simply fun, kinky people who wanted to be there to have a good time.

kyotokink14

Curious about why this vibe seemed different to many other play parties, I asked around. Lovely Fate is a membership club – to attend you have to either be a member or be invited to attend (as I was). The original members were friends of the founders, and they are a little selective about who joins. Apparently not to exclude any particular type of person – but more to preserve the friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental feel. Disclosure: yes, I applied to become a member following the event. So it’s entirely possible I’m subconsciously over-praising this event in this write up so they let me join!

Awesome, kinky fun – the next one is coming up next Saturday… info on how to attend can be found on their web site here.

Review: Spanker Machine

September 5, 2017 By anniebear 2 Comments

Our lives will forever be changed. Tired of getting into fights with your Dom/me for lack of spankings and attention? Fear not, there is a machine that can do the job for you! Before you start rolling your eyes, you NEED to check the Spanker Machine invention out.

This is not a one size fits all type of spanking machine. You can change out the spanking implements with pretty much whatever you want be it a wooden spoon, thin cane, paddle, and more! The machine also has different settings and strengths so you can please even the most timid of subs. I was especially impressed with the “delayed” spanking mode which pauses between spanks or it can lightly press on the spot it just spanked. The machine can be mounted to almost any surface for portable spanking power wherever you go.

I could see this machine as having numerous uses besides pleasing a lonely submissive. Perhaps your dominant is injured or sick but still wants to engage in play or punish you. They can easily set you up for a good spanking. Is your dominant traveling all month? You won’t get out of practice with daily spankings from the spanking machine that you film for your dominants pleasure!

If you can’t get a Spanker Machine delivered to your house, the demo videos are still hilarious to check out. I’d really like to meet the genius behind this gadget. He and Kink Weekly founder Dexx seem to have some devious qualities in common. Happy spanking!

anniebear Learns to be a Dominatrix

August 28, 2017 By anniebear 3 Comments

A few weeks ago I attended a full weekend, three-day group immersion course on how to become a Dominatrix. The instructors, DommeCraft founder, Simone Justice and co-teacher Mistress Damiana Chi are experienced professional/lifestyle Dominatrices. We could not have been in better hands. If you haven’t heard of DommeCraft, consider it the university level training course for those interested in learning the ins and outs of lifestyle and professional domination. The course includes handouts, homework, live demos, practice demos, feedback, and at the end a graduation with a certificate of completion. If there truly were a legalized, certification course for Domination then DommeCraft would be the leader in the industry.

Damiana Chi and Simone Justice, our instructors for the weekend.
Damiana Chi and Simone Justice, our instructors for the weekend.

I had a lot of nervous feelings in the days leading up to the course. I’ve mostly identified as a submissive and had always been such in my past and current relationships. In the last year or so I’ve been playing around with topping and dominating a few play partners, mostly women. The idea of going to learn from the pros was appealing to me because I thought it would help me gain more confidence and also develop my blossoming skills as a top. My expectations going into the course were completely blown out of the water! While I’d like to divulge every little detail, for the privacy of the other students and also the coursework, I will only cover some of the major highlights.

I arrived at the secret dungeon location on a Friday evening. There was one other attendee already there and we shyly exchanged hellos and a few questions. The dungeon space was amazing. It had everything you would need for a great scene; an open floor plan, high ceilings, bondage equipment and racks. My favorite was a suspended globe shaped cage, perfect for trapping someone inside to prod and tease! Damiana greeted us first and I was slightly intimidated but quickly realized she was an extremely warm and friendly person. In all there were six students. Simone arrived last, in a wheelchair. A sidenote, Simone had recently suffered a broken hip so I thought it was incredible for her to have such dedication and commitment to still come and lead the full weekend class. I’m sure it was extremely exhausting but you would never be able to tell that she had suffered such a terrible injury.

Mistress Simone Justice
Mistress Simone Justice

We quickly got down to business. Simone began the class with everyone introducing themselves. I was surprised at the variety of women in the class. Everyone came from a different background yet managed to have so much in common. It truly was a lovely group of women. Simone lead us through some exercises to familiarize ourselves with each other and to create good energy amongst one another. I’ve never worked in this manner before, but the exercises we did really worked! It made me feel both closer and eager to learn more about the other women. We then sat in a circle and received handouts on the first evening’s lessons. I won’t go into too many details due to the very personal nature of the work we did but suffice it to say it was revolutionary.

The next morning I arrived ready to rock! We dove headfirst into lessons on verbal domination with our partners. We were told that around noon, some demo submissive men would be arriving that we could practice our work on. I was expecting one or two submissives and we would take turns. I was delighted to see that there was more than one submissive per student in the class! This just goes to show the dedication and attention that Simone and Damiana give to providing the best tools in which we could learn. I was extremely nervous to work with actual in the flesh human beings. In the past, I have topped a handful of men and women, but this was an entirely new environment where I would be observed while at the same time practice the lessons. We were given the opportunity to take a submissive through a “preliminary” scene using verbal tactics only. I never realized how much I relied on physical touch. It was definitely a challenge as expressed by some of the other students as well.

We did a recap on how the scenes went and proceeded on to the next lessons. A lot of the specific information we learned is confidential, and only reserved for those in this line of study, however we continued the course with bondage cuffs, collars, leashes, and light impact implements and sensation play. We of course practiced all on our willing submissives, who I think delighted in all of us “baby dommes.” From personal experience, I’ve been a demo bottom before and it is a fun process watching someone discover and explore his or her domination.

Another unique aspect of this workshop was the use of “Goddess work.” I’m unfamiliar with this method, however many of the other students were well acquainted with their Goddesses and which ones they identify with, and requested inclusion of more Goddess elements. Simone changed the class to accommodate and brought in several Goddess statues as well for us to use. As a female Domme, it is important to be able to at least be open to tapping into those who have come before you and the energy derived from not only within but the Goddesses and those around you. I’m still working on grasping these concepts, but it was very powerful.

Day three commenced and was the final and most invigorating day. We observed both Damiana and Simone give full scene demonstrations which was so much fun! They acted as if there were no one else in the room and the intimacy between them and the submissives was incredible. Afterward we got hands on with the demo subs and did a rotation of different implements and domination techniques to try out. Damiana showed us some CBT (cock and ball torture) techniques which included tying up the penis and the balls and then delivering smacks or whatever type of play you wanted to do. I was pretty nervous about this particular technique as it looks super painful. I’ve also never been one to be too handy with rope so the concept never particularly appealed to me. But, I rolled up my sleeves and jumped right in when the time came to try it out! I am pleased to confess that I was able to master the CBT tie quite quickly! Perhaps I have a new calling, haha.

Day three wrapped up very quickly. I missed going to the graduation play party, but I heard it was a fantastic experience to bring together all that we had learned and try out our new skills in a party environment. It was incredible meeting so many wonderful women and also the very dedicated male submissives who assisted. Thank you to Simone and Damiana for a wonderful class. I’m also very eager to attend the “Dommes of DommeCraft” play party, September 2nd, which will have Dominas who have attended past DommeCraft weekend and daylong classes and private lessons with Simone. To join us write Damiana@DamianaChi to apply. Wish me luck!

Event Review: Kink Weekly Launch Party

June 20, 2017 By Jenn Masri 1 Comment

So it’s been a little over a week since the Kink Weekly launch party happened. I must admit, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. It was in partnership with a new event brand called Lovely Fate so honestly, anything was possible. I had never been to the venue before and wasn’t privy to too many details beforehand. I was, however, very much looking forward to it. Both for the anticipation of the party itself as well as to celebrate this wonderful on-line publication!

My Sir and I decided to Uber there because it had been mentioned that there was a lack of parking. So glad we did! The venue is at the end of a very unassuming dead-end alley. You would seriously never know it was there by just driving down the street. We waited for a little bit because they were running a few minutes late inside (and I have this annoying habit of not being fashionably late if I can help it).

Once we were allowed in the door we were greeted by a lovely blonde woman standing behind a desk who asked for our IDs to check us in. We also signed the waiver which is pretty standard protocol.

Before I continue with my description of the evening I would like to take a moment to put in mind those kink/BDSM fiction novels you may have read. No, I am NOT referring to 50 Shades. The other novels that create a sexy and alluring ambiance as you flip through the pages. Have you read any of those? Well if you have, keep them in mind as I continue to describe this party.

Once we were done checking in we continued past the desk and, just ahead, in front of floor-to-ceiling white curtains, stood two adorable female subs. They weren’t wearing much and they each held lit candelabras. They welcomed us in as they parted the curtains to let us through. Once inside the next room we were met by additional greeters who offered a chance to pull a “dare” from their box (not a euphemism lol) – there were little folded pieces of paper that had suggested dares on them. A fun little addition! To our left was a human table and a human lamp next to an actual couch and chair for socializing away from the main room. Beyond this area were more white curtains which I would later learn separated the smoking area and additional bathroom.

Turning right into the main room there was an enthusiastic greeter who was very helpful in pointing out the bar and various other points to the space. We enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres by more scantily clad lovelies and a drink from the bar (ok I stuck to water and lemonade). There were two adorable rope bunnies tied together on a table that I enjoyed torturing with a bit of tickling. FYI they had rules of consent on a small board in front of them and I also knew them both. Also a beautiful human centerpiece on a large square table feeding guests chocolate covered strawberries.

After an appropriate amount of socializing had been done and most of the guests had arrived – Dexx gathered the crowd to thank everyone for making the event possible and proceeded to open up an additional section which included several play areas including a school room with enough chairs for about a dozen “students”. There were a few planned scenes/performances which included role-play, fire, flogging and more.

All in all it was a very enjoyable evening with the ambiance of those novels that actually rouse the senses. My Sir and I had a wonderful time, met many new people, saw familiar faces, and watched some amazing play. Thank you to Dexx and anniebear for orchestrating such a classy and wonderful event!

Book Review: Future Sex by Emily Witt

April 24, 2017 By anniebear 1 Comment

screen-shot-2017-04-24-at-9-46-42-pm

I first discovered Future Sex while researching topics for our “This week in kink” section on Kink Weekly. I’m always on the prowl for BDSM news or anything pertaining to sex and alternative relationships. I saved the book information and moved along only to circle back to it again once I had some serious travel coming up. Having secured the book into my Kindle app on my iPhone, I promptly read the entire thing in about three days. Author Emily Witt describes the topography of contemporary dating by living out more experiences than most will encounter during the whole of their existence. She also manages to both dissect and explain commonplace dating and sex while being able to move past the norms, all with a sense of ease and understanding.

She takes us through a journey of several years and many experiences that the average person would consider to be unusual. From “OM”-ing (a new wave method for female orgasm) in San Francisco to finding new partners in the desert at Burning Man she takes each moment in stride with an ernest self awareness lacking in most.

One of my favorite moments is near the beginning as Witt realizes traditional dating is not for her, that she needs to look into other options. But should she fail in her mission she states, “I would have embraced the project of wifeliness, monogamy, and child-rearing and posted them as triumphs for collective celebration on digital feeds.” Never has this idea been more clearly painted to me than in that sentence. For me, Future Sex was not only an investigation into alternative dating and non-monogamy but it was exposing what monogamy has become; the “one true option.” Those outside of monogamy are labeled as strange degenerates in way and with little attempt from “vanillas” to even understand why others choose to date or have sex this way. Witt says, “I had disliked my freedom because I didn’t want to see myself landing on the outside of normal.” Because anything but “normal” is difficult for most people to even share with their friends and families.

Future Sex is not at all what I expected. With the organization of the book being separate chapters outlining a glimpse into different facets of dating as a millennial, with titles like “Internet Dating” and “Live Web Cams” it’s both entertaining, raw, and at times awkward. In the chapter “Internet Porn” Witt spends a great deal of time discussing Princess Donna and the “Public Disgrace” series from Kink.com. I loved reading every word about how one of these shoots would go down. Basically a model signs a specific agreement allowing him or her to be “publicly” humiliated in front of an audience. Oftentimes, audience participation is allowed. The Public Disgrace videos were some of my very first exposure to the lifestyle, I just didn’t realize it at the time. I read this section with a bit of sadness as Kink.com has recently moved their offices from their home at The Armory in San Francisco. But that’s a lamentation for a whole other article!

Where was Witt going with all of this Kink.com business? She pointed out that everything she witnessed for Kink was about rules and perhaps she realized, her rules may need to change.

Most eye opening to me was the chapter on Birth Control and Reproduction. Witt points out that basic birth control technology for women has not advanced or evolved in almost forty years. This reinforces the idea that except for condoms, birth control falls squarely on the shoulders of women. No one seems to care enough to advance it because “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” (that was a direct quote from me, not the author of this book 😉 But the birth control methods and process are broken. The pain, side effects, burden…its one more nail in coffin of how we’ve arrived to the way sex is now.

Witt eventually wraps the book up into a startling conclusion. There won’t be some amazing evolution of how we have sex. The conversation will simply change as it always has. Even from ten years ago, we talk about sex differently or perhaps it’s just me? There is always a shift occurring, even if it’s minute.

Future Sex is available on Amazon.com.

Movie Review: Fifty Shades Darker

February 20, 2017 By anniebear 4 Comments

fifty2

We know many are tired of having this movie shoved down their throats, however we would not be doing our job as a weekly news and educational source without addressing the second installment in the franchise responsible for bringing (perhaps incorrectly) BDSM and kink into the forefront of society. I saw the movie with my partner Dexx on a rainy afternoon in LA. The theater was full of groups of women, couples, and perhaps not so surprisingly high school aged girls who provided plenty of titters and giggles during the film.

While I’ll avoid regurgitating the plot back to you; it was painful enough the first time, I will start at the top of this movie where Christian Grey immediately wins back Anastasia Steele. I was a bit miffed as to how he managed this. The previous movie had us believe that she was leaving him because he wanted a D/s relationship including punishment and play. In this next film, he shows up unannounced, they have dinner and they are back on. It is clear that Anastasia is not a submissive and is even judgmental towards Christian for his kinky inclinations. She is a very confused, emotionally immature woman, having no dating experience so the reassurance that Christian “has changed and doesn’t need BDSM” anymore is enough for her.

Christian on the other hand shows classic signs of potentially being an abusive or unstable Dom; possessiveness, extreme jealousy, moving the relationship along very quickly, saying one thing and doing another-just to name a few shortcomings. Having read the books prior, I can tell they dialed down his extreme jealousy and general lunacy in the movie. While he expresses signs of serious childhood trauma, he acts out in his life and attributes behavior to this trauma. For the record there are any number of practitioners of BDSM who have suffered trauma but are able to engage in BDSM in a safe and meaningful way. This movie, in my opinion, perpetuates the dangerous fantasy of meeting a “damaged” dominant, becoming his/her muse and somehow “fixing” them. This is a very dangerous path and a common tale within the BDSM community in terms of young or inexperienced submissive engaging with predator Dom/mes.

The movie comes to a crescendo when Christian finally admits that he’s not a dominant but rather a sadist. He acts out on these sadistic fantasies because of the childhood trauma. This is the main issue among the BDSM community, that people only engage in it who are emotionally damaged. This could not be further from the truth. There is also the argument that sadism and dominance are not one in the same-but to be honest that’s a topic for an entirely different article.

Interestingly enough, one of the “villains” in this film is actually one of the only people spouting truth! Nicknamed Mrs. Robinson, she’s an old friend of Christian’s. She is responsible for introducing Christian to BDSM at a young age as his dominant. Though they no longer engage in that type of relationship, she still tries to warn Anastasia that she’s not the right girl for Christian nor could she ever give him what he wants. She hits the nail on the head if I’ve ever heard it! Unfortunately she comes on a little too strong and also becomes a little spiteful and jealous to be much of an anchor for Christian and is cast out.

There is still one more painful installment left in this trilogy. Sadly, if you have read the books you know the ending. The movie was well shot and some of the sex scenes were slightly steamy-a spreader bar scene in particular comes to mind but still, it was VERY mild on the actual BDSM play. There was plenty of sex though. Dexx was also particularly fond of the soundtrack and musical selection. Those high school girls I mentioned at the top of this article were gushing in the bathroom afterward about how amazing the film was. Do we have some future kinksters? Or perhaps they are only after the rich billionaire who sweeps a young innocent girl off her feet?

Event Review: Auckland Fetish Ball

October 31, 2016 By anniebear 1 Comment

It was more than we could have ever expected! Dexx and I found out there was an Auckland, New Zealand Fetish Ball and we just had to check it out while visiting the city. We’d attended a few other events in Auckland last year and knew there was a thriving Kiwi kink scene. This event, now in its 16th year proved to be as much fun and in some cases even better than the extremely active and saturated scene we’re used to in Los Angeles.

The theme for the ball was Cosplay. I donned my sexy wolf costume and Dexx was appropriately dressed as Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. The venue was The Winchester, which turned out to be the perfect space for such a party. We arrived and made our way up the steps of the building. Considering what I knew about Auckland, it being a more conservative city generally, I was not sure what the costume participation would be. We were some of the first people to arrive. After being greeted and checking our coats with some super friendly people, we made our way into the main space. It was a large room, sexily lit in red. There were tables, couches, and even some giant bean bag chairs to lounge upon. The DJ was playing and there was a main stage where performances would be held later in the evening. So far, everyone seemed to be embracing the theme and was in all manner of costumes. We grabbed drinks at the bar and made our way around the room. Dexx is much more outgoing than myself and quickly introduced us to a few people. Unknowingly, the first person we met, Nocturness was to be one of the performers later in the evening. She was super friendly and had some incredible contacts on that changes her eyes to look quite intense. After a chat we went to look a the play space. The room was well equipped with many pieces of play equipment. There was a dungeon monitor and a “kitty” having a quick spanking. We were unsure how many people would be playing that evening.

The party filled up quickly after that. Many of the costumes were incredible with many types of kink and orientation represented: leather, latex, cross dresser, trans, lace, and of course Cosplay were in force! I have an affinity for going out as twins with some of my girlfriends and was able to snap a photo (with permission) of a cute set in attendance. We were very impressed. While it was obvious there were people in power exchanges with there partners, there was a far less sense of protocol as in the Los Angeles parties we attend. People were still very respectful, but the atmosphere was less chilly since you didn’t have to walk over egg shells to decipher who was in what dynamic follow which protocols. I also really appreciated the meshing of every type of dynamic. Gay leather mixed with hetero Dom/mes and everything in between. Because the scene is so large in Los Angeles, for better or worse, the parties are more fragmented with each group sticking to its own and rarely coming together. There was also some actual, honest to goodness dancing which dexx and myself appreciated and participated in. Next, We scouted out some seats for the show. We noticed a couple not in costumes next to us. We of course try not to judge folks but you could tell they were a bit “out of place,” Dexx was intrigued. He introduced himself and found that they were in fact friends of the venue’s owner and this was their first kinky event. Despite being a bit out of their element, they were really enjoying the festivities, people, and costumes.

The MC Miss Mole took the stage to get things started. Larger than life, she was dressed in an assortment of feathers in black and white. She gave a hilarious introduction for each act and was clearly a favorite among the crowd. The first act was our recent acquaintance Nocturness. She had changed into some impressive ram horns and was scantily clad. She danced with candles and wax, dripping them down her body. The room was silent and at attention. There was a collection of folks seated around the stage to enjoy the view. At the conclusion she received a rousing round of applause and cheers from the crowd.

Following Nocturness, the mood got considerably more serious as a procession of people made there way to the stage holding candles. As I watched what unfolded I knew immediately what was about to happen: a hook suspension, live and in person! I’ve been actively going out in the lifestyle for over two years now and never have I seen a hook suspension in person. Of course I knew the hows and whys and video but seeing it in person was another experience entirely. I’m admittedly a bit squeamish and disliked needles so I must say it was difficult for me to watch. The rest of crowd however could not take their eyes off of the stage. It was a beautiful connection between the person doing the suspension and the bottom. She took great care in communicating and had several assistants with her to help. The bottom was suspended about 7-9 inches off of the table they were working off of. The audience gave full weight to the happenings on stage by remaining respectfully silent. I myself had to keep looking away. I do give major respect to those involved int hat scene as it was very intense and beautiful in its own way.

The stunning Nocturness

After the seriousness of the suspension, Dexx lead me back to the play room. There were several more scenes going on at this point and the room was getting full. A few people were trying spanking for the first time, which was incredibly fun. We found out the dungeon equipment had been lent out by a local professional dominatrix, Mistress Dior and we of course had to meet her! She was so friendly and wearing and incredible costume, pictured. She was very popular at the party, showing the ropes to some impact play and more! It was after that that Dexx decided it was time for some spanking of my own. We found ourselves a spot and he took the liberty of spanking me very thoroughly in the crowded room. My face was very hot with embarrassment for all of the people watching us but I loved it!

We wrapped up the evening by having a rest in the main room and talking with the organizers of the ball. They are a very friendly couple and mentioned they brought the Fetish Ball from Chirstchurch and it’s been a huge success. Dexx and myself had a wonderful time and a big thank you to everyone for making us feel so welcome!

Review: I Escaped Hell in the Armory

October 25, 2016 By Vice Erotica 2 Comments

armory

I’m afraid of the dark. Like, “won’t walk down the hallway in my own house without flipping on a light switch first” kind of afraid. The complications this brings about when it comes to hoods and blindfolds and other kinky crap is a story for another day! I also hate clowns – which makes this time of year particularly unnerving, especially when friends continuously send daunting photos of sinister creatures wielding balloons and the occasional axe… I digress. But I secretly love the adrenaline rush of a well put together production. As soon as I learned The Armory in San Francisco would be continuing their “Hell in the Armory” event, I quickly asked my Sir if we could possibly find a weekend to travel up there and attend. The planets aligned, I bought tickets, and we planned our weekend away.

Starting times were offered every 30 minutes from 6:30pm deep into the night. We opted for the Friday at 7:30pm time, figuring we could make dinner reservations before and still have plenty of time afterwards to enjoy my favorite cocktail at The Armory Club (a moody bar across the street). Knowing this event was at the home of kink.com, I wanted to dress the part. I wore a cute black dress and a giant bow in my hair, with the cutest knee high socks. I figured if I looked like a sweet little girl, I could grab onto Daddy’s arm and no one would hurt me.

We checked in to the front desk of The Armory, got ID’d, and checked our coats, and there began our quest to enter – and then escape – Hell in the Armory…

(CAUTION: SPOILERS! if you plan on attending, skip to the last paragraph!)

We were instructed to head into a dark room, only illuminated by throbbing red lights and an eerie fog floating about. A gruff man darted in, yelled that we were next, and disappeared as quickly as he arrived. It dawned on me all at once that we were about to go into a terrifying experience. This wasn’t just any trip to The Armory; it was the very real possibility of facing every single fear I have – complete with a hold harmless waiver and a safeword. I began squirming nervously and looking over my shoulder, letting my imagination concoct the most hideous creatures hiding beyond the red glow in every dark crevice of the room. I must’ve looked insane sitting there, wringing my hands in my dress with my head darting back and forth because I had convinced myself there were a thousand eyes watching me. My heart was already beating so fast, and I felt the icy cold dread and fear running through my veins. I took deep breaths and reminded myself that this was my idea. I begged for the trip to San Francisco. I bought these tickets. I consented to this. And, it was all just for fun and entertainment, right?

The gruff man came back in. His thick black rubber gloves instantly intrigued me, the freak inside me remembered this was, after all, a professional kink haven. He gestured towards us and another couple to meet him in the hallway. He awkwardly made us all introduce ourselves. He gave us stern instructions on the official safeword, how to use it, and what it meant. Then he told us to hold hands, extended his hand to my Sir, and took off running at an insane pace dragging us all behind him yelling at us to run faster. I instantly second guessed my wedged boots and short flowy dress as we sped past stunned guests checking in and up the stairs to the next floor.

We ran into a dark foggy hallway, and abruptly stopped. The gruff man ordered all of us to face the wall, line up shoulder-to-shoulder, and keep holding hands. I continued to take deep breaths and stare at the green glow on the wall in front of me. Suddenly, everything went black. Before I knew what had happened, a thick black hood was yanked over my head rendering me completely blind. All the sounds around me became muffled as my heart started pounding so hard, I was sure it would beat out of my chest. My Sir later told me that he could feel my pulse in my hand. I was still holding the hand of the unfortunate male half of the couple that was partnered up with us; I tried so hard to not break his fingers. I felt our hands being pulled apart, and a thick rope was put in place of our grip. I felt a tug and off we went, running into darkness. I was certain I was going to trip, but fortunately (or unfortunately?) that was the least of my worries. I was so terrified I found myself laughing in between gasping for breaths. Our run came to a stop, our hoods were yanked off (I was pleased that all of us were hooded, not just me – even though I later found out I was the first victim. Guess my sweet little outfit wasn’t having the desired effect…), and we blinked at the room around us. A voice told us that we had 3 minutes. “Three minutes til what?!” screamed my brain, and then I remembered this spectacle had an Escape Room twist to it. I immediately looked around to take in my surroundings. It was some hodge-podge Christmas décor that looked straight out of a sociopath’s living room in 1970’s, complete with a record player crooning some unrecognizable tunes. There was a locked toolbox dangling from the ceiling in the middle of the room, with a note that said “READ ME.” The man from the other couple with us took to the task. There was some elaborate rhyming message, which basically said we needed to figure out the combination and unlock the box. We all began tearing apart the room; shuffling through records, moving picture frames, analyzing decorations, trying to create clues out of something or nothing all at once. After what felt like eternity, we got the box unlocked (it was rather anti-climactic though, as whoever ‘reset’ the room after the last party left the word on the combo lock – we foolishly kept trying to figure it out even though it was already ‘solved’). We opened the box to find a whistle and a witty sign that said “BLOW ME.” No sooner had I raised the whistle to my lips (jokes most definitely ensued later that night), two masked men ran into our creepy Christmas room, yanked hoods over the other couple, and pulled them out of the room. I blew the whistle anyway, hoping for some sort of mercy. Our fate was no different than theirs. I was soon blind and defenseless again, being led down a dark hallway. I had no hand to hold, though the masked man had a firm grip on the back of my neck as he maneuvered me to our next destination.

The next room was just as dark. I felt like I could see glowing figures moving around in front of me, but that may have just been my paranoia setting in. I had no clue where my Sir was, if he was even in the same room as me. Aside from the dark, and clowns, being alone is one of my worst fears. I didn’t have time to ponder his whereabouts much, as I was roughly pushed up against a wall. My hands were splayed over my head, and my feet were kicked apart. My head was pushed down until my forehead touched the wall, with such authority that I didn’t dare lift it to look around. And then I was frisked. Roughly. I won’t lie and say I didn’t enjoy it. I also wont lie and say that my dress was not up around my waist because my arms were stretched so high above my head. My wrists were then crossed, trapped in the hands of my captor and I was yanked into what felt like the middle of the room. I felt a body next to me, and I breathed a sigh of relief as I realized it was Sir (he was frisked too!). We were pressed tightly against each other, side-by-side, and wrapped from hip to armpit (our arms were still raised – remember what I said about my dress??) in what I can only describe as black saran wrap. Out of that room we went, with the now familiar hand of my handler firmly gripping the back of my neck once again.

It was a short walk this time. Rough pressure on my shoulders brought me to my knees, taking my pseudo-Siamese-twin with me. I was relieved to feel a cushion under my knees as I sank to the ground. We kneeled there in silence for what felt like an eternity. The sense of vulnerability was crushing. All at once, the room lit up with blinding bulbs and strobes. Once my eyes adjusted, I realized we were not alone. I could feel breath on my neck. I tried to look around, but my head was held tightly in this unidentified person’s grasp facing forward. A silhouette was appearing in the midst of the brightest lights. As they began to dim, we could see the back of a man standing up. The music that had been deafening this entire time was abruptly cut, and all we could hear were his ragged breaths. I soon recognized them as breaths of pleasure not of distress, and I realized we were being forced to watch a man masturbate. The breathy person behind me let out a diabolical laugh as she held our heads facing the grim sight. The silhouetted man was nearing completion. We witnessed what appeared to be a desperately long awaited orgasm, and he slowly pulled his hand to the side. Thick strings of his pleasure caught the light, as we caught sight of the mess that had been made in his hand. He slowly turned around, laughing (I fully expected him to be a clown, by the way), revealing his face – entrapped in some leather harness-type contraption. His laughs turned to a creepy rendition of “eeny meeny miny mo…” as he waived his vulgar hand back and forth between Sir and I. I was, alas, the unfortunate winner of his little game. My prize was a caress of his indecency across my cheek and down my neck. Sir, who chuckled because he thought he was out of the woods, was rewarded with a squirt of some liquid down his back. Our sticky selves were hauled up, hooded again, and ushered to another room.

Amidst trying not to trip, I was trying to identify the substance drying on my cheek. Whatever it was, it was very…well…realistic. My thoughts were interrupted as we came to a stop in our room. The hand on my neck gripped tighter and voice barked “don’t f*ing move!” There we were again – in darkness, and in silence. After another round of eternity, we heard rustling and a faint voice. Once it became more audible, we heard a suffering man assuring us that “he was gone.” His raspy voice told us to take off our hoods and remove the plastic still binding us together. We stood in silence, suspecting some sort of trap. His pleas got louder, as he begged us for help and assured his that “he” was gone. Sir removed his hood, and then turned to take off mine. I shook my head violently trying to pull of out his grasp. I frantically tried to simultaneously keep my hood on and stay still, as I was bluntly told to do earlier. The voice became louder and more demanding, and eventually I succumbed to the pressure. I was already envisioning the retribution that could come from such a blatant display of disobedience. With hoods removed and plastic binds shed, we turned around. A sweaty, dirty, half naked man was tied to a stack of threadbare mattresses. He was curled in the fetal position shaking with evident fear, extending his bound wrists and begging for us to find the key. We took in our surroundings. Countless orange prescription bottles littered the floor, amongst trash bags and various discarded items. I began gingerly kicking things around, hoping to stumble across “the key” before “he” came back in and unleashed hell upon us because we moved. I tried to set aside my nauseating thoughts of what I could possibly uncover under these piles of trash. We eventually found the key taped to the wall above the man on the mattresses (again, slightly anti-climactic). I pushed the key into Sir’s hand, and backed into a corner – unsure of what would happen after this man was free. He gingerly rubbed his sore wrists, thanked us, and began pacing around the ravaged room. A sudden spark of hospitality overcame him, and he invited us to lie down on the mattresses. His invitation turned to demanding orders, and so down we went. As soon as my head hit the mattress, I was overwhelmed with a pungent aroma. I was unsure if it was coming from my new resting place, or the filthy man that we had just freed. The overwhelming sense of vulnerability crept up again, while the possibilities of being flat on my back in a dark room with a crazed man swirled through my imagination. We heard rustling behind us, as the man pulled items from a closet. We heard metal scrape the floor, and the discernable sound of him urinating into a bucket. He let out relieved breaths, and began putting the bucket away. The spark of hospitality must have ignited again, as he muttered something about how thirsty we must be. Horror overcame me as I watched him pour liquid from the bucket into Sir’s mouth. I watched him swallow (yes, I did make several jokes about this later) and gag repeatedly. I had been convinced he did actually relieve himself into that bucket, and now I was trying by best to assure myself that all of this was just for fun. I clenched my lips tight and shook my head when he brought the bucket to my lips. His kind offer became forceful and I felt the salty liquid pool in my mouth. I turned my head to the side and spit it out hastily, not caring that it drenched my hair. The man then said he was thirsty too. He procured a cup, and made us both spit into it. I watched in shock as he took a swig of it. The man seemed displeased and told us to get up. He began to pace frantically again. His muted mutterings turned to loud shouts as he told us to “find his pill.” His clutched his head in his hands and his strained voice screamed over and over. I looked around in dismay at the hundreds of pill bottles littering the floor. I bent down and began the arduous task of shaking each one, hoping to find this pill and stop this madman from shouting. I finally heard a magical rattle, and tossed the bottle at the man. He opened it and swallowed its contents greedily. He looked around in panic, as if a sudden realization had just come over him. He peeked out the door of the room, and told us we had to go. NOW.

My details will stop there, as I fear I’ve already said too much. I wish to not fully ruin it for those also looking to experience this production… Overall, I was thrilled to have experienced, and Escaped, Hell in The Armory. The hands-on immersion was a terrifying mindf*ck, and tapped into several of my fears. The actors were deep into their characters, their stories were believable, their interaction was spot on, and I liked the small group intimacy. Upon reflection, I was disappointed in the lack of nudity (I mean, it’s The Armory for crying out loud!) as reviews of previous years’ Haunts had stated there were ample amounts of. I also was hoping for a little bit ‘more’ – there could have been a continuous story line or plot; “the key” could have been drowning in a jar of some ghastly substance, not taped in plain sight; the men escorting us could have been substantially more terrifying; our actions could have dictated the rest of our encounter; the ‘Escape’ aspect of it could have been much more crucial to the story line; the could have made much better use of the vast sets that kink.com already has in place in this historical building. And – it was a rather short experience, at just 20 minutes. All that said though, I was not disappointed in the slightest. I was covered in unidentified substances, shaking my head in disbelief at all I just experienced. I enjoyed telling my friends I visited The Armory and left with ejaculate on my face and urine in my mouth. The event most definitely did not disappoint, as my imagination was able to go wild and divulge in the narrative. I enjoyed that it wasn’t your typical Haunted House with things jumping out at you screaming “BOO!” I liked that it wasn’t all about being scary or gory, and while the lack of nudity was slightly disappointing – I liked that it wasn’t all about sex as one might expect. I liked that it tapped into deep rooted fears, and ran the viewers through a slew of emotions – fear, disgust, confusion, shock. I hope the creators improve upon this year’s production, and we can’t wait to visit Hell in The Armory next year.

Fifty Shades of Mockery

February 15, 2016 By anniebear 1 Comment

50 black

With all the buzz surrounding the impending second installment of the Fifty Shades debacle (I think my loathing for this franchise is palpable), several other films surfaced that have cashed in on the BDSM theme. More specifically, the two films I’ll be discussing here are in fact, directly linked to Fifty Shades of Gray.

You may ask why do we care? Why is it important to note that other people make terrible BDSM films? It’s all about vanilla awareness and starting the conversation. I’ll get to that in a bit so hang with me. The first film, which in my opinion was so obscure if you blinked you may have missed it was Bound, released in early 2015, directly ahead of the first Fifty Shades movie. It was made in the style of a “mockbuster”-cashing in on the similar plot and genre to the mainstream Fifty Shades film soon to be released. Starring Charisma Carpenter (from Buffy!) as Michelle Mulan and some guy who looks and acts like the poor man’s Jamie Dornan (not that I’m a fan of his either) playing Ryan Black, this trainwreck shares many similarities to the Fifty Shades plotline. Spoiler alert: Guy hits on woman who is failing at her life and career, he now claims he owns her, she agrees for some unknown reason, some awful BDSM scenes, as it turns out he’s actually just mentally ill, and from here the plot deviates from its inspiration. Here’s the laughable synopsis pulled directly from IMDB, “The daughter of a wealthy real estate broker falls in love with a younger man, who introduces her to B&D and S&M. Using her newly awakened sexual prowess, she finally takes charge of her own life.” I recognized one of the dungeon filming locations as Los Angeles Dungeon West owned by pro-Domme Mistress Justine Cross. Too bad they didn’t bring her on as a consultant for the film, it really could have used the help.

Some positives did come from this movie. I will say the film showed us what a Dom IS NOT. The Dom in this movie is depicted as a disrespectful, petulant party boy drug dealer. Absolutely no one else in the film likes him including a fellow Dominatrix that Michelle meets in a dungeon. She actually goes so far as to warn Michelle to stay away from Ryan because he’s dangerous and makes “people like us look bad.” In all honesty, this doesn’t really happen in our community. For one thing, warning others about predators, proven or not can turn into a bit of a which hunt. But, I think our community could do a better job of protecting newbies and others from predators. Education is one step in the right direction. Awareness is another thing entirely. But in the end there will always be the question of why someone like Michelle would fall for a weasel like Ryan Black. The similarities to some of the horror stories we hear in real life about Dom/mes gone wrong are striking. It’s easy to fall into the desired fantasy and ignore the warning signs.

I don’t recommend seeing Bound unless you have a few hours of your life you never want to get back. But it’s worth mentioning that due to its content and overall message that overcoming adversity and BDSM helped mold Michelle into a strong, powerful woman.

Moving on to film number two, a much more mainstream flick in its own right; Fifty Shades of Black. Yup, I sat through this one too. It’s not so much a mockbuster as it is a parody. Following the same plotline as it’s namesake, the story follows Hannah and Christian. The most interesting aspect of note is the characters’ references to Fifty Shades. At one point, Christian Black is torturing Hannah by reading aloud from the book. Hannah also references Ana Steele towards the end of the movie. The jokes are fairly mild, some of them only kinky folks might understand which I appreciate. But my take away from it is they were ripping apart the original Fifty Shades of gray movie. Hannah was depicted as a complete idiot and Christian was a nit whit, which is basically how the characters are in the original movie but they were being serious. This movie also made BDSM a bit absurd and exaggerated in a way but then again so did Fifty Shades of Gray.

So what does all of this boil down to? Well, I appreciate that BDSM is getting ever more mainstream. There are some in the community that do not applaud this effort but I find it can only assist in making what we do behind closed doors and in dungeons more acceptable and thus have fewer repercussions when something goes wrong or if the “wrong” person finds out about you. Almost everyone knows of at least one person in the lifestyle who’s had to deal with backlash after being outed. I personally know of several. But all of these movies, even if poorly representing the community as a whole still serves to make something “taboo” mainstream. We are well on our way to normalizing kink.

Kinky fun at the 2016 AVNs, Las Vegas

January 25, 2016 By Desdemona 3 Comments

The AVN expo and awards took place in Las Vegas over the past week. anniebear and I had the pleasure of attending for the first time.

Hosted at the Hard Rock Hotel, the event is at it’s heart a porn industry event, but it does have some BDSM elements as well, which is of course what we were most interested in checking out.

The expo is big enough that it sprawls across three large halls. Porn producers and stars filled many of the booth spaces, with opportunities for attendees to meet and take pictures with their favorite performers. Virtual Reality (VR) porn was heavily featured, suggesting that goggle wearing 3D video may be the future of the industry.

Upstairs, “The Lair” offered a section of the exhibition dedicated to fetish and BDSM. Coordinated by Sanctuary’s Mistress Cyan, vendors and kinksters from Vegas and across America came to offer their wares. With play spaces at either end, there were scheduled performances and workshops throughout the expo, including rope and whip displays. There was even time for anniebear to get a quick demo from Leather by Danny and Scott at Flogger Knows best. She’s never one to turn down some “funishment.”

flogging

On the main stage, we were treated to a stage show by Stockroom’s cabaret crew, led by the fabulous Hudsy Hawn. My personal favorite involved some advanced pet-play, with Skin Diamond playing the part of a very sexy kitty who got the cream… and then poured it all over herself (bottles and bottles of the stuff) before splashing around in it and making a great big creamy mess all over the stage.

Back in the exhibit hall, we came across some cool booths. One vendor, Rubber Nipple catering to age play on a whole new level, with adult sized pacifiers, cute adult sized diapers, and a giant inflatable crib. anniebear couldn’t resist jumping in a for a little nap.

Just across the way, a leather craft store visiting from New York, Touch of Fur offered high quality floggers and live demonstrations. The owner was kind enough to give anniebear a good old flogging (was that her second or third for the day?), before teaching me some new tricks. I was finally able to get the hang of the double Florentine, something I intend to keep practicing with anniebear… regularly.

As we walked past the Clips4Sale booth, performer Ashley Fires spotted us and beckoned anniebear over to offer her a public spanking in front of the watching crowd. Well, it’s not every day that you get offered a spanking by a hot porn star, so we of course obliged her and anniebear enjoyed a wonderful little play scene with Ashley and her friends.

There were many parties on throughout the week, all with wonderful themes and all sorts of interesting folks. The one we were most interested in was of course The Lair Fetish party at Club Vinyl hosted by House Ravynblood. This was where all the kinky crowd were to be found, and it featured stage performances including the hilarious Sir Gear, and the captivating Emily Marilyn. There was a who’s who of notable kinksters in attendance, including Ken Marcus, Mistress Cyan and Master Eragon.

On Saturday evening, we met up with Playboy Radio who were kind enough to do a live on air interview with anniebear and myself about Kink Weekly. They were very interested to learn more about the BDSM community, and we hope that some of their listeners will make 2016 the year that they decide to more fully explore their kinky side.

Saturday night brought the culmination of the show and the main event – the AVN Awards themselves.

Fans and press flocked to the Hard Rock hotel to catch glimpses of their favorite stars – for once dressed up to the nines in fabulous outfits. Everyone was so beautiful and well dressed, one observer noted that it would be difficult to tell the difference between the AVN red carpet and that of the Oscars.

The awards ceremony was hosted by well known adult actresses Annika Albright and Joanna Angel. The pair did not fail to disappoint, even performing a song and dance number “That’s what porn’s all about”.

When it came to the awards themselves, kink had a good night. BDSM flick “The Submission of Emma Marx: Boundaries” cleaned up with four awards, including Best Actress (Penny Pax) and Best Screenplay. Meanwhile, Kink.com took the award for “best alternative website”.

Performer James Deen took a diminished role compared with previous years. Nominated for 33 awards, he was all charm and smiles on the red carpet. However, Deen has been mired in accusations of rape and abuse – first by ex-girlfriend and fellow performer Stoya in November of 2015, and then by a series of other female co-stars. In the end, in taking only two minor groups awards, he did not appear on stage – the award committee no doubt keen to avoid being overtly associated with him amidst the storm of allegations.

Myself and anniebear are now back in Los Angeles, recuperating from a most eventful weekend in Las Vegas. I think it’s safe to say it was one for the books.

Writer, photographer, hedonist, Dom. After years of at-home BDSM, Dexx finally embraced the kink community and met many fantastic fellow kinksters in the scene. Along the way, it occurred to him that it would be just super if there was a magazine-style web site which catered to people interested in BDSM, and he recruited some of his friends to help create it.
